  • ◆ Adjusting gear shift mechanism =>Page 34-24.
  • ◆ To remove complete shift mechanism, first remove exhaust system:

=> 4 cylinder engine, Mechanics; Repair Group 26; Removing and installing parts of exhaust system, FWD

=> 4 cylinder engine, Mechanics; Repair Group 26; Removing and installing parts of exhaust system

=> 4 cylinder Engine (5-valve), Mechanics; Repair Group 26; Removing and installing exhaust system parts

  • ◆ The housing for the selector mechanism must be lowered clear if the shift mechanism is to be dismantled with removing it from the vehicle.

    • ◆ Insert spring and bush in the ball stop and assemble on the gear stick so that the spring and bush are on the right when looking forwards.
    • ◆ Install ball stop before fitting circlip (Item 23).

On models from 06.96 onwards the push rod is bolted directly onto the gearbox. The additional retainer -Item 34-18 and the bolts for the retainer have been discontinued. The gearbox cover has been modified accordingly, and now has an additional mounting boss.

    -convex side faces towards push rod
