Adjust shift mechanism

Notes:

The following are prerequisites for correct gear linkage adjustment:

  • ◆ Perfect gear linkage operating and transfer elements.
  • ◆ Gear shift mechanism moves smoothly.
  • ◆ Gearbox, clutch and clutch mechanism must be in proper condition.
 
A34-0118
  • ◆ Gearbox in neutral.
  • ‒ Unscrew the gear stick knob from the gear stick lever.

Note:

The cover of the gear stick lever is removed together with the cover for the central console.

  • ‒ → Lift the cover for the central console upwards -Arrows A- a little.
  • ‒ Pull the cover backwards a little -Arrow B- and then pull the complete cover upwards.

  • ‒ → Screw out noise insulation for gear stick housing -arrows-.

  • ‒ Measure distance between body and rear push rod (in selector mechanism).
 
A30-0274
    • ‒ → Specified value: Distance a = 41 mm
  • If this is not the case, adjust distance -a- as follows:
  • Loosen push rod bolt (arrow).
    • ‒ Rear push rod (in shift mechanism) should move freely in both directions on slide.
  • Set distance -a- by moving rear push rod (in shift mechanism).
  • Tighten push rod bolt -arrow- to 25 Nm.

  • ‒ → Loosen bolt for selector rod -arrow B-.
    • ‒ Connection between selector rod and shift mechanism should move freely.

 
A34-0280

Align the gear stick lever as follows:

  • ◆ Gear stick in vertical position to direction of travel.
  • ◆ → Gear stick inclined slightly to the rear (approx. 5o) towards rear -Angle piece a-.

Note:

The illustration shows the gear stick from the right.

  • ‒ Gear stick held in this position.
  • ‒ Tighten selector rod bolt to 25 Nm.

Note:

The gear stick must remain in the same position while the bolt is being tightened.
