• ◆ Oil seal extractor lever VW 681
• ◆ Press piece 3236
• ◆ Fitting appliance 3244
• ◆ Thrust piece 3323
• ◆ 2 - puller Kukko 18/1
• ◆ Waste fluid container

Removing

• ● Gearbox installed.

• ‒ Do not loosen collared bolt for drive shaft further than 90°while the vehicle is still standing on its wheels, otherwise the wheel bearing will be damaged.
• ‒ Remove right front wheel.

Vehicles with TDI engine:

• ‒ → Remove rear noise insulation -D- (-arrows C-).

• ‒ → Remove bolt -1- securing noise insulation cover above right drive shaft.
• ‒ Disengage retainer -2- and remove noise insulation cover.

All models

• ‒ → Remove heat shield for right drive shaft -arrows-.
• ‒ Remove right drive shaft

=> Running gear, Front and four-wheel drive; Repair group 40; Removing and installing drive shaft

• ‒ Pierce sealing cap in drive flange with a screwdriver and lever out.
• ‒ Lever off circlip.
• ‒ Place container under the gearbox.

• ‒ → Remove drive flange with press piece 3236 and two-arm puller Kukko 18/1 -A-.
• ‒ Pull out drive flange seal with extractor lever VW 681.

Installing

Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:

• ‒ Moisten outer circumference of seal with gear oil.
• ‒ → Half fill space between sealing lip and dust lip -arrow- with grease G 052 128 A1.

Note:

Ensure that seal is inserted in housing at same depth all round.

• ‒ → Drive new seal in onto stop, when doing this do not cant seal.
• ‒ Installation position: open side of seal towards gearbox

• ‒ → Pull in drive flange.
• ‒ Fit new circlip.
• ‒ Drive new sealing cap into drive flange using 30 mm wrench socket.
• ‒ Install right drive shaft.

=> Running gear, Front and four-wheel drive; Repair group 40; Removing and installing drive shaft

• ‒ Check oil level in final drive of automatic gearbox .

Tightening torque
