Note:

• ◆ The locking cable must not be kinked

Removal:

• ‒ Disconnect earth strap on battery.
• ‒ Remove the driver's side storage compartment located under the steering wheel.

=> General Body Assembly, Interior; Repair group 68; Storage compartments, covers; Removing driver's storage compartment

• ‒ Remove steering column switch.

=> Electrical system; Repair group 92; Repairing steering column switch; Removing and installing steering column switch

• ‒ Set the starter switch to "drive".
• ‒ Move the selector lever to "P".
• ‒ Raise the locking rod -1- and pull the locking cable from the starter switch.
• ‒ Disassemble the cover with guide (gear shift mechanism) .
• ‒ Unclip the locking cable from the retaining spring on the mount. To do this, raise the retaining spring slightly.
• ‒ Loosen the cable binder -2- and pull out the locking cable.

Installation and adjustment

• ‒ Install in reverse order.
• ‒ Install the locking cable without kinks and secure at the position shown using a cable binder -2-.
• ‒ Move the steering column back/down.
• ‒ Check that locking device -1- engages.
• ‒ Loosen the bolt -6- slightly.
• ‒ It must be possible to slide the support bracket -3- in the direction indicated by the arrow -5-.
• ‒ Ensure that the retaining spring is fitted correctly in the mount.
• ‒ Hook interlock cable support bracket -3- into shift mechanism and interlock cable eye into lever (for interlock cable).

• ‒ Insert the adjustment gauge 3352 A, -4- between the lever (for the locking cable) and locking cable eye.
• ‒ Pull the locking cable in the direction of the arrow -5- and tighten the bolt -6- to 8 Nm.
• ‒ Whenever the locking cable has been adjusted, check the locking cable .
