Removing and installing thrust tube
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
Notes:
-
◆ It is essential that the locking fluid remaining in the threads in the flange shafts on the gearbox and rear final drive is cleaned out after removing the propshaft. Otherwise there is a danger that the new bolts will seize when they are screwed in and then shear if they have to removed later.
-
◆ The threaded holes can be cleaned with a thread tap.
-
◆ Replace gasket between propshaft and drive flange (remove protective sheet and bond gasket to flanged shaft). The adhesive surface must be free of grease.
-
◆ Replace propshaft bolts (self-locking).
-
‒ If there is a factory marking on the propshaft adjust the radial run-out on the propshaft flange and place the colour marking on the propshaft in line with the new marking on the flange.
-
‒ Stress-free alignment of exhaust system:
=> corresponding Workshop Manual for Engine, Mechanical Components; Repair group 26; Removing and installing exhaust system
-
‒ Top-up gear oil in rear final drive and check oil level .
