| Modified oil routing in cylinder head; originally with oil supply pipes on camshaft bearing caps, subsequently replaced by integrated oil passages in camshaft bearing caps |
An external distinguishing feature of the “engine generations II” and “III” is the shape of the cylinder head cover: |
A - | “Engine generation II” (to approx. 04.1997) |
B - | “Engine generation III” (from approx. 04.1997) |

| “Engine generation II” cylinder heads may only be fitted on an “engine generation II” cylinder block. A combination of the two versions is not permitted. |
