Note:

  • ◆ If engine control unit is replaced, the new unit must be subsequently checked to determine whether it has the correct coding.
  • ‒ Connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select the engine electronics control unit with "address word" 01 .
    For this purpose, the ignition must be switched on.
 
→ The display on fault reader V.A.G 1551 shows the control unit identification code e.g.:
8D0907551.. 2.7l    V6/5VT    G    0002⇒
Code 10711    WSC 06388

The code corresponding to the vehicle must be displayed, see encoding table
=> Page 01-90.

If the corresponding vehicle code is not displayed:

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.
 
→ When adjacent display appears:

Select function XX
  • ‒ Enter "07" for the function "Encode control unit" and confirm entry with Q key.
 
→ When adjacent display appears:
Code control unit    Q
Enter code number XXXXX     (0-32000)
  • ‒ Enter the corresponding vehicle control unit code as per encoding table and press the Q key => Page 01-90.
 
→ If following message is displayed on tester:
Function unknown or cannot    ⇒
be carried out at the moment

Please check that the correct engine control unit is installed according to the parts catalogue (part number; it may not be possible to encode the control unit). It is also possible that an unreleased code has been entered. If necessary, please repeat the encoding process.

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 6 for the "End output" function and press the Q key to confirm entry.
