  • ◆ VAS 5051 with VAS 5051/1
  • or
  • ◆ V.A.G 1551 with V.A.G 1551/3 A

Removing

  • ‒ Connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit with "Address word" 01
    For this purpose, the ignition must be switched on.
 
→ The fault reader V.A.G 1551 display will show the control unit identification, for example:
3B0907551B    2.8l V6/5V    G    0002    ⇒
Coding 11551    WSC 12345
  • ‒ Always start by displaying and printing out the control unit identification => Page 01-6.
  • ‒ Compare coding to encoding versions => Page 01-62.
  • ‒ Switch ignition off.
 
A20-0564
  • ‒ → Remove rubber seal from plenum chamber cover in direction of arrow.
  • ‒ Remove plenum chamber cover -1- from the front.

 
A10-0761
  • ‒ → Remove cover for electronics box (plenum chamber) -arrows-.
 
N28-0123
  • ‒ → Carefully lever off the retainer bar with a screwdriver -arrow-.
  • ‒ Release the connector latches and pull of the control unit connectors.
  • ‒ Take out engine control unit.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:

Important note:

After installing the new engine control unit, the following operations must be performed:

  • ‒ Perform adaption of throttle valve control unit -J338 => Page 24-144.
  • ‒ Adapt kick down function on vehicles with automatic gearbox .
  • ‒ Note instructions for encoding new engine control unit => Page 01-60.
  • ‒ In vehicles with cruise control (recognisable from steering column switch), this should be freed in engine control unit:

=> Electrical System; Repair group 01; Self-diagnosis for the cruise control system (CCS)

  • ‒ Adapt immobiliser to engine control unit.

=> Electrical system; Repair group 01; Immobiliser self-diagnosis - alternating code; Adaption after replacement of the engine control unit

  • ‒ Produce the readiness code => Page 01-71.

Note:

In the first adaption phase, during the basic setting operation for the engine, slightly irregular idling and slight jolting during driving are possible.
