Final control diagnosis

Notes:

  • ◆ The final control diagnosis can only be performed with the engine stopped and the ignition switched on.
  • ◆ The final control diagnosis is terminated if the engine is started or if an engine speed pulse is detected.
  • ◆ During actuator diagnosis, the individual actuators are operated in turn for about one minute unless the next actuator is selected by pressing the ⇒ key.
  • ◆ The control elements can be checked acoustically or by way of touch.
  • ◆ Engine must be started before repeating the actuator diagnosis. (Engine control unit has to have recognised a speed greater than 300 rpm.)
  • ◆ The electric fuel pump runs continuously throughout the final control diagnosis.

The final control diagnosis activates the following components in the stated sequence:

Actuation sequence

Solenoid valve 1 for activated charcoal filter -N80

Secondary air inlet valve -N112 (only on vehicles with secondary air induction)

Secondary air pump relay -J299 (only on vehicles with secondary air induction)

4

Intake manifold changeover valve -N156

5

Camshaft adjustment 1 (camshaft adjustment valve 1 -N205 and camshaft adjustment valve 2 -N208)

Test requirements:

  • ● Fuses for engine electronics OK
  • ● Fuel pump relay OK.

Test sequence

  • ‒ Connect up vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information system VAS 5051 or fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit with "Address word" 01 .
    When doing this the ignition must be switched on.

  • ‒ Enter "03" to select the function "Final control diagnosis".

Actuation of activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve (tank breather valve)

  • ‒ Confirm input with the Q key.

Note:

Fuel pump relay should pull, fuel pump should run, flow noise at fuel pressure regulator is clearly audible If fuel pump does not run, check actuation

→ Display readout:
Display at V.A.G1551: Tank breather valve -N80)
Final control diagnosis    ⇒
Solenoid valve 1 for active carbon canister -N80
  • This valve is actuated (clicks) for approx. one minute if the operation is not switched to the next actuator by pressing the ⇒ key.

If the valve is not actuated (does not click).

  • ‒ Check the solenoid valve for the activated carbon canister -N80 .

Actuation of secondary air inlet valve

(Only on vehicles with secondary air induction)

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.

Secondary air inlet valve -N112
  • This valve is actuated (clicks) for approx. one minute if the operation is not switched to the next actuator by pressing the ⇒ key.

If the valve is not actuated (does not click).

  • ‒ Check secondary air inlet valve -N112
    => Page 24-106.

Actuation of secondary air pump relay

(Only on vehicles with secondary air induction)

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.

Secondary air pump relay -J299
  • The relay for the secondary air pump -J299 switches the engine for the secondary air pump V101 on and off for approx. 1 minute if by pressing the ⇒ key the next actuator was not activated beforehand.

If secondary air pump motor -V101 does not run in intervals:

  • ‒ Check secondary air pump relay -J299
    => Page 24-111.

Actuation of intake manifold changeover valve

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.

Intake manifold changeover valve -N156
  • This valve will continue to be actuated (clicks) until the ⇒ key is pressed to switch to the next control element.

If the valve is not actuated (does not click).

  • ‒ Check intake manifold changeover valve -N156 => Page 24-67

Actuation of camshaft adjustment valves

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.
 
→ Display readout:
Final control diagnosis    ⇒
Camshaft adjustment 1
  • Valve 1 for camshaft adjustment -N205 and valve 2 for camshaft adjustment -N208 are actuated (click) for approx. one minute if the final control diagnosis has not been completed by pressing the ⇒ key.

If the valve is not actuated (does not click).

  • ‒ Check camshaft adjustment valves:

=> Mechanical components; Repair Group 15; Check camshaft adjustment; Check function of camshaft adjustment

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.

Note:

The final control diagnosis can only then be started again after the engine has started and the ignition has been switched off and on again.
