Testing operation of warning lamp (dash panel insert without CAN interface)

  • ‒ Switch on ignition.
    • ‒ If the fault memory has not registered any faults relating to the electronic throttle, the EPC warning lamp should light up for about 3 seconds.

A - Electronic throttle warning lamp -K132 does not light up

  • ‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control unit. Do not connect to the engine control unit itself.
    .
  • ‒ Bridge contacts 1 and 48 on the test box using test leads from adapter set V.A.G 1594 A.
  • ‒ Switch on ignition.
    • ‒ The warning lamp should light up.

If the warning lamp does not light up:

  • ‒ Switch off ignition.
  • ‒ Remove dash panel insert

=> Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault-finding and Fitting locations binder

  • ‒ Rectify short circuit or open circuit if necessary.

If the wiring is OK:

  • ‒ Fit a new engine control unit => Page 24-24.

B - Electronic throttle warning lamp -K132 lights up continuously

  • ‒ Interrogate fault memory of engine control unit.

If no faults are stored:

  • ‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control unit. Do not connect to the engine control unit itself.

Testing operation of warning lamp (dash panel insert with CAN interface)

  • ‒ Switch on ignition.
    • ‒ The engine control unit switches on the EPC warning lamp.
  • ‒ Start the engine.
    • ‒ If the fault memory has not registered any faults relating to the electronic throttle, the EPC warning lamp should go out shortly after starting the engine.

Note:

The warning lamp signal is transmitted from the engine control unit to the dash panel insert via CAN data bus. Testing data transfer between engine control unit and other control units with CAN interface .
