Testing sender voltage readings

  • ‒ Read measured value block (function 08) and select Display group 98 =>Page 01-49.

→ Indicated on display
Read measured value block    98     ⇒
4.420 V    3.080 V    Idling    ................

The values in Display zone 1 should be between 0.5 and 4.9 Volts.

  • ‒ If the specified value is not achieved, switch off ignition.
  • ‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/19 to the wiring harness of the Motronic control unit.

  • ‒ Disconnect the 8-pin connector from the throttle valve control part.
  • ‒ → Use a multimeter to check the wiring between the test box and the 8-pin connector for continuity according to the current flow diagram.

    Contact 2 + socket 1 D
    Contact 5 + socket 14 A
    Contact 7 + socket 15 A
    Contact 8 + socket 13 A
  • ‒ Use the multimeter to test the wires for short circuits with each other.

  • ‒ → If the specified values are not achieved, use a multimeter to measure the voltage between contact 4 and contact 7 on the 8-pin connector.

Specified value: at least. 4.8 V.

  • ‒ Eliminate any open circuits and contamination of the contacts, delete the fault memory and perform basic setting of the throttle valve control part =>Page 24-59.
  • ‒ If the value is still not as specified, check the throttle valve for dirt or stiffness and clean if necessary.
  • ‒ Repeat basic setting of the throttle valve control part =>Page 24-59.
  • ‒ If it is not possible to start the basic setting or if the basic setting cannot be completed, fit a new throttle valve control part.
  • ‒ Perform basic setting of the throttle valve control part =>Page 24-59.
  • ‒ If the basic setting cannot be started or successfully completed, replace the Motronic control unit.
  • ‒ Perform basic setting of the throttle valve control part =>Page 24-59.
