CAN bus
Function of CAN-Bus

Bus:

"Bus" is used to describe a system that transports and distributes data.

CAN:

Controller Area Network refers to a bus system employing two lines known as bus lines. These bus lines are used for serial transmission of data, i.e. data is sent to each of the connected control units in turn.

Further details and test instructions can be found on . Two wires are employed in order to be able to detect faults in the wires themselves.

The data bus termination is a resistance. It prevents the data transmitted by the terminals returning as an echo and corrupting the data.

The terminating resistors of the CAN Bus have a rating of 120 ωand are located in control unit -J104 -Item 2- and in the engine control unit -Item 3-. They produce a total terminating resistance of approx. 60 ω.

Steering angle sender -G85 transfers its data to the control unit via the CAN-Bus. It has no terminating resistor.

With the introduction of control units 8D0 907 389 D, the CAN bus is connected centrally in the engine control unit with a resistance of approx. 66 ω. All other control units linked to the CAN network, e.g. ESP control unit -J104, are then connected with a high resistance of 2.6 kω.
