Checking/replacing compressor drive unit > < Detaching pulley from compressor/re-attaching (version "2”)
Detaching/attaching version “2” pulley
Detaching/attaching version “2” pulley
Detaching

–  Remove the plastic disc -B- from the pulley -A- (if fitted).
  A87-10128
–  Use a small screwdriver or pointed-nose pliers, for example, to carefully remove the circlip -A- (possibly with vulcanised rubber disc), taking particular care not to damage the pulley.
–  Hold compressor drive shaft -B- in position for example with socket wrench -T10001/10- from wrench set and turn drive plate -C- with pulley -D- in direction of arrow -E- (tightening torque 35 Nm).
  Note
There are different types of compressor drive shaft. The drive shafts fitted at the start of production cannot be supported using an Allen key (use socket wrench -T10001/10- for example). Use was later made of compressors with a hexagon end on the drive shaft.

–  Remove circlip -A-.
–  Detach pulley -B-.
Attaching
  Note
t  Replace circlip -A-.
t  Clean compressor flange before attaching pulley.
t  On fitting circlip -A-, take care not to bend it open more than necessary.
–  Fit pulley -B-.
–  Ensure correct insertion of circlip -A-. Bevelled side -C- faces away from compressor (flat side faces compressor).
–  Insert rubber elements -D- in pulley -B- as shown.
  A87-0633
–  For fitting drive plate, moisten rubber elements -D- slightly with tyre assembly paste or soap solution for example to provide lubrication.
  A87-0632
–  Insert drive plate -C- in rubber elements -D- until it makes contact with shaft of compressor -B-.
  A87-0633
–  Screw drive plate -C- onto compressor shaft -B- by turning it in direction of arrow -F-.
–  Tighten the drive plate -C- to 35 Nm by turning it with a commercially available strap wrench (with fabric strap) in direction of arrow -F-. Provide support for the compressor shaft -B- by applying a counterhold (e.g. socket wrench -T10001/10- from the wrench set) to the compressor shaft -B-.
–  Fit circlip -A-.
  A87-0632
–  Clean the drive plate of the pulley -A- and affix the plastic disc -B- to the centre of the drive plate (compressors with no rubber disc at circlip only).
