Notes:

• ◆ To improve voice recognition and comprehensibility of telephone voice input, vehicles as of Model Year 2002 feature fresh-air blower speed reduction:

• ‒ Reduction comes into effect as soon as "Telephone voice input" information is transmitted via convenience data bus.
• ‒ Duration of reduction is limited to max. 2 minutes.
• ‒ Amount by which fresh-air blower speed is reduced is governed by outlet direction of air and fresh-air blower speed on receiving "Telephone voice input" signal. The greater the volume of air being routed to the dash panel vent, the more the speed is reduced.
• ‒ The fresh-air blower speed reduction takes effect as of an air distribution rate of approx. 40% to the dash panel vents. Maximum reduction is implemented with 100 % air distribution to dash panel vents.

• ‒ In basic setting with 100% of the air being routed to the dash panel vents, the fresh-air blower speed is limited to 15% of the maximum speed level. This limitation can be reduced or cancelled by way of the "Adaption" function in adaption channel "8".

• ◆ To avoid customers having to visit the workshop several times, it is appropriate after changing adaption to discuss and if necessary test the voice input function with the desired reduction in fresh-air blower speed and 100% air distribution to the dash panel vents.

Performing adaption

• ‒ Interrogate fault memory of operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) and eliminate any other faults displayed.
• ‒ Check encoding of operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating) for vehicle-specific optional extras and correct if necessary => Page 01-162.

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ‒ Select function ""10 - Adaption".

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ Prompt for entering channel number appears in display zone -1-.
• ◆ Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.

• ‒ Use input keypad in display zone -2- to enter "8" for "channel 8" and confirm entry by touching "Q key".

Note:

• ◆ → If "Function unknown or cannot be implemented at present" appears in display zone -1-, this may be due to the following:

• ‒ Control unit adaption neither as specified nor complete
• ‒ Fault in convenience data bus

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ Display zone -1- shows "Channel 8 reading and testing".
• ◆ Area -2- shows "15%".
• ◆ Bar with code number for currently valid maximum fresh-air blower speed (e.g. "3840" for 15%) appears in area -3-.

• ‒ Bar can be used to alter fresh-air blower speed in range between 15% and 88% for telephone operation.

Notes:

• ◆ If bar is used to enter a code number corresponding to maximum fresh-air blower speed less than 15% or greater than 88%, code number is displayed but not implemented.
• ◆ If bar is used to enter a code number greater than approx. "32600", display is automatically reset to 15 %.

• ◆ New value set for maximum fresh-air blower speed during telephone operation appears in area -2-.
• ◆ Basic setting at factory: 15% (code number currently "3840")
• ◆ Maximum fresh-air blower speed which can be set with voice recognition:
  15%......88% (code number currently "3840"......."22528")

Entry can also be made by way of keypad.

• ‒ Touch button -4- (for entry via keypad).

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ Display zone -1- shows "Enter adaption value: 0....XXXXX".
• ◆ Input keypad appears in display zone -2-.

• ‒ Use input keypad in display zone to enter value for desired maximum fresh-air blower speed with "Telephone voice input" function for re-adaption of operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 (heating).

Basic setting at factory:
15% (code number currently "3840")

Maximum fresh-air blower speed which can be set for telephone operation:
15%......88% (code number currently "3840"......."22528")

Notes:

• ◆ Fresh-air blower speed is no longer reduced in 88% setting. This setting may result in impairment of voice recognition and comprehensibility of telephone voice input at maximum fresh-air blower speed and with air routing to dash panel vents.
• ◆ If keypad is used to enter a code number corresponding to maximum fresh-air blower speed less than 15% or greater than 88%, code number is displayed but not implemented.
• ◆ If keypad is used to enter a code number greater than approx. "32600", display is automatically reset to 15%.
• ◆ The fresh-air blower speed reduction takes effect as of an air distribution rate of approx. 40% to the dash panel vents. Maximum reduction is implemented with 100% air distribution to dash panel vents.

• ◆ → Code number entered is displayed in area -2-.

• ‒ Confirm entry by touching "Q key".

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ New value for fresh-air blower speed with telephone operation appears in area -2-.
• ◆ Code number entered appears above bar in area -3-.

• ‒ Store entry by touching key -5-.

→ Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

• ◆ Display zone -1- shows "Store channel 8".
• ◆ New value for fresh-air blower speed with telephone operation appears in area -2-.
• ◆ Original and new code numbers for maximum fresh-air blower speed in telephone operation appear in area -3-.

• ‒ Adopt and store entry by touching key -4-.

• ◆ Display zone -1- shows "Store channel 8, value 0.....XXXX stored".

Notes:

• ◆ If a code number corresponding to maximum fresh-air blower speed less than 15% or greater than 88% is entered, code number is displayed but not implemented.
• ◆ If code number greater than approx. "32600" is entered, it is ignored by -E87 (heating) and 15% is stored.

• ◆ Return to selection program by touching ← key.
• ◆ Check voice recognition with newly entered fresh-air blower speed reduction.

• ‒ Terminate self-diagnosis => Page 01-106 and switch off ignition.

Check voice input and telephone voice recognition as follows:

• ‒ Start engine.
• ‒ Select "Maximum fresh-air blower speed" function on operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87 and "Air distribution to dash panel vents" or "Defrost" function.
• ‒ Open all dash panel vents.
• ‒ Check voice input function and telephone voice recognition in this setting.
