Removing and installing selector shaft > < Removing reversing light switch F4

t  Assembly sleeve -01E 311 120-
t  Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-

Removing
–  If fitted, unfasten quick-release fasteners -3- and remove noise insulation (rear) -B-.

–  If fitted, remove drive shaft noise insulation (left and right) from wheel housing -arrows-.

–  If fitted, unbolt heat shield for drive shaft (left-side) -arrows- (3 bolts).
–  If fitted, remove front exhaust pipe (left-side) with catalytic converter → Rep. Gr.26.

–  Unscrew nut -1- and pull gearbox selector lever -2- off gearbox selector shaft.
–  Carefully lever out oil seal with extractor tool -T20143/1-, making sure selector shaft is not damaged.
l  Check selector shaft for damage.

Installing
–  To avoid damaging oil seal -C-, oil seal and selector shaft must only be fitted using assembly sleeve -01E 311 120--A-.
–  Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half-full with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-.
–  Lightly oil outer circumference of oil seal.

–  Drive oil seal -arrow- into housing as far as it will go.

–  Fit gearbox selector lever -2- and secure with nut -1-. Tightening torque → Item
The remaining installation steps are carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following points:
–  Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Rep. Gr.26.
–  Check gear oil level in gearbox → Chapter.
