Removing

–	Remove front exhaust pipe (left-side) with catalytic converter: vehicles with manual gearbox → Chapter, vehicles with multitronic gearbox 01J → Chapter; vehicles with automatic gearbox 01V → Chapter.

–	Unscrew bolts -2- (accessible from below) at heat shield.

–	Unscrew bolts -1- (accessible from above) and remove heat shield.

–	Unscrew bolts -1- (accessible from above) on exhaust manifold.

–	Unscrew nuts -2- (accessible from below) and remove heat shield bracket.

–	Unscrew nut -3- and remove exhaust manifold.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Renew gaskets and self-locking nuts.

–	Install front exhaust pipe (left-side) with catalytic converter: vehicles with manual gearbox → Chapter, vehicles with multitronic gearbox 01J → Chapter; vehicles with automatic gearbox 01V → Chapter.

–	Align exhaust system so it is free of stress: vehicles with front-wheel drive → Chapter, vehicles with four-wheel drive → Chapter.
