Removing and installing starter
Vehicles with 2.7 ltr. or 3.0 ltr. TDI engine
Vehicles with 2.7 ltr. or 3.0 ltr. TDI engine

Removing
–
With ignition switched off, disconnect earth cable at battery
→ Chapter
.
–
Remove front wheel (right-side).
–
On vehicles with auxiliary heater, unscrew bolts
-arrows-
for exhaust pipe of auxiliary/supplementary heater at noise insulation.
–
Unfasten quick release fasteners
-1 ... 3-
and detach noise insulation (front and rear).
Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
–
Remove noise insulation
-1-
in wheel housing (right-side).
–
Unbolt drive shaft (right-side) from flange shaft on gearbox.
All models:
–
Detach electrical wires
-2-
and
-3-
at starter.
–
Unscrew bolts
-1-
and
-4-
and remove starter.
Note
Depending on design status, bolt
-Item 4-
may be screwed in from engine or gearbox side.
Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
–
Guide out the starter towards rear over the right-side wheel housing.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
–
Secure drive shaft (right-side) to flange shaft
→ Rep. Gr.40
.

Connect the battery. Additional steps required
→ Anchor
.
