3 - Indirect ventilation vent / cover for centre dash panel loudspeaker
q   Removing and installing vent → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70
q   The indirect ventilation vent is only fitted on vehicles with an air conditioner of the „Deluxe“ type. Vehicles with an air conditioner of the „Basic“ type are fitted with a cover and the opening in the air conditioning unit is sealed off (different versions of air conditioning unit and air duct beneath dash panel).
4 - Air conditioning unit with evaporator and add-on components
q   Different versions depending on vehicle model and equipment → Chapter and → Electronic parts catalogue
q   Air routing in air conditioning unit and vehicle → Chapter
q   Air conditioning unit components → Chapter
q   Cleaning evaporator of air conditioner with ultrasonic A/C cleaner -VAS 6189- → Chapter
q   Removing and installing air conditioning unit → Chapter
  Note
Air conditioning units with an additional connection for glove compartment cooling are being gradually introduced as of 01.2008. This connection is sealed with a plug on vehicles not featuring glove compartment cooling → Chapter.
5 - Centre left dash panel vent
q   Removing and installing dash panel vents → Chapter and → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70
6 - Centre right dash panel vent
q   Removing and installing dash panel vents → Chapter and → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70
7 - Defroster vent / right side window
q   Removing and installing → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70
8 - Right dash panel vent
q   Removing and installing dash panel vents → Chapter and → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70
9 - Dust and pollen filter (with/without ACF element)
q   Heed replacement intervals → Maintenance tables
q   Different versions depending on vehicle model and equipment → Electronic parts catalogue
–  Vehicles with an air conditioner of the „Basic“ type have no ACF element.
–  Vehicles with an air conditioner of the „Deluxe“ type have an ACF element. Such vehicles are also fitted with an air quality sensor -G238- → Chapter.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
  Note
t  In Model Year 2012, a modified dust and pollen filter with ACF element is to be gradually introduced on vehicles with an air conditioner of the „Deluxe“ type. This filter with an enhanced fine dust separation rate has roughly the same air resistance values as the filter fitted prior to conversion and can thus also be installed on vehicles manufactured prior to conversion → Electronic parts catalogue.
t  If so requested by the customer, vehicles with an air conditioner of the „Basic“ type fitted at the factory with a dust and pollen filter with no ACF element can also be provided with a dust and pollen filter with ACF element → Electronic parts catalogue.
10 - Front right chest vent temperature sensor -G386-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Only fitted with air conditioner of „Deluxe“ type
11 - Right (front passenger side) condensation drain
q   Checking, removing and installing → Chapter
12 - Right seat (front passenger seat) with components for seat heating and ventilation
q   Components for seat heating (front right seat temperature sender -G345- and heated seat cushion for front right seat -Z46-) and seat ventilation (control unit and various fans) → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.72 and → Rep. gr.74
q   Not all vehicles feature seat heating and seat ventilation (optional extra).
q   The seat heating and ventilation settings are made on the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-. Actuation of the seat heating and seat ventilation is indicated in the measured value block of the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-, checking → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
q   The seat heating and seat ventilation are actuated by way of different control units depending on the vehicle equipment and model → Chapter and → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations and → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 (for -J519-, -J136- and -J521- depending on the vehicle).
q   Servicing seat heating and seat ventilation → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.72 and → Rep. gr.74
q   Notes on operation of seat heating and ventilation → Chapter
  Note
t  Situations preventing activation of the driver/passenger seat heating or ventilation are stored as faults in the onboard supply control unit -J519-, the seat and steering column adjustment control unit with memory -J136- or the front passenger seat adjustment with memory control unit -J521- (depending on the vehicle model and equipment). On this vehicle, no information is currently transmitted via the data bus to the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- indicating that the event recorder in the corresponding control unit or in the convenience system central control unit -J393- has to be read out → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051. In the event of problems with seat heating or ventilation, the first step should therefore always be to read out the event recorders of the control units which actuate the seat heating and ventilation.
t  The seat heating and ventilation settings are made on the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-. These settings are transmitted via the data bus to the onboard supply control unit -J519-. The specified temperatures for the various seat heating and ventilation settings are stored in -J519-. Depending on the version of -J519- and the vehicle production period, the specified temperature for the seat heating and seat ventilation may therefore differ in spite of identical settings on the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 (for the onboard supply control unit -J519-).
13 - Vent in rear centre console
q   Removing and installing → Chapter and → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70
–  Only fitted with an air conditioner of „Deluxe“ type (the opening in the centre console is sealed off in the case of an air conditioner of „Basic“ type).
14 - Potentiometer for rear temperature selection -G538-
–  Only fitted with an air conditioner of „Deluxe“ type (the opening in the centre console is sealed off in the case of an air conditioner of „Basic“ type).
q   The potentiometer for rear temperature selection -G538- forms part of the vent and cannot be replaced separately → Electronic parts catalogue.
q   Removing and installing → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70.
q   Checking → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051
