Removing and installing alternator - vehicles with 3.0 ltr. TFSI and 3.2 ltr. FSI engine
Removing and installing alternator - vehicles with 3.0 ltr. TFSI and 3.2 ltr. FSI engine
   
Removing
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect earth cable at battery → Chapter.
–  Remove front noise insulation (release fasteners -1- and -2-).

–  Remove bolt -1- and nut -3-.
–  Detach strut -2- for lock carrier (right-side).

  Caution
Risk of breakage if the poly V-belt runs in the opposite direction when refitted.
Before removing, mark direction of operation of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen in preparation for re-installation.
–  To slacken poly V-belt turn tensioner in direction of -arrow-.
–  Remove poly V-belt from alternator pulley.
–  Release pressure from tensioner.

Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
  Note
Observe rules for cleanliness when working on automatic gearbox → Rep. gr.00.
–  Remove bolt -arrow- for ATF lines.
  A37-10839
–  Slacken nut -1- on bracket for electrical wiring several turns.
  Note
Disregard -item 2-.
  A10-10881
–  Drain coolant → Rep. gr.19.
–  Lift retaining clip and remove coolant hose -2- from radiator.
  Note
Disregard -item 1-.
–  Move coolant hose clear to one side and upwards.

All vehicles (continued):
–  Unplug electrical connector at oil level and oil temperature sender -G266- and move clear wiring harness at alternator.
–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and detach alternator.
–  Unplug electrical connector -1-.
–  Unscrew terminal 30/B+ -item 2-.
Installing
l  Tightening torques → Chapter
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
–  Secure ATF lines → Rep. gr.37.
–  Fill up with coolant → Rep. gr.19.

All vehicles (continued):
–  Attach strut for lock carrier (right-side) → Rep. gr.50.
–  Fit poly V-belt onto pulleys in the following sequence:
1 - Alternator
2 - Idler roller
3 - Coolant pump
4 - Power steering pump
5 - Air conditioner compressor
6 - Tensioner for poly V-belt
7 - Crankshaft
  Note
When installing poly V-belt, make sure it is properly seated on pulleys.
–  Connect battery. Steps required → Anchor.
–  Start engine and check that belt runs properly.
