Rear Side Airbag, Switching Off

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051B)

Procedure

CAUTION!
‹› Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components Safety Precautions ] See:

Restraint Systems/Service Precautions.

‹› Observe additional safety precautions for side airbag. Refer to => [ Side Airbag Additional Safety Precautions ] See: Restraint

Systems/Service Precautions.

Switch the ignition on.

-

Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on.

Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] See: Body and Frame/Seats/Service and Repair/Overhaul/Rear Seats.

CAUTION!
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge
static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example. 

‹› Rear left and right side airbags can we switched off individually. 

‹› There is a connector under the seat bench on the left and right side.

Disconnect the rear side airbag connector.

-

Push the connector lock - 3 - in as far as the stop -  arrow - to disconnect it and remove it.

Install the seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] See: Body and Frame/Seats/Service and Repair/Overhaul/Rear Seats. 

CAUTION!
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly,
they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.

Carry out program in "Guided Functions" to deactivate rear side airbags. The respective adaptation program must be carried out.
