Installing Tapered Roller Bearing Onto Pinion
First install pinion and new spacer sleeve.

Heat bearing to approx. 100°C (212°F) and press on.

Push pinion up and place rod 3114 centered on pinion.

Tightening Pinion Nut And Adjusting Friction Torque

Measuring friction torque: refer to "Procedures"

The final drive must be supported (e.g. with VAG 1383 A) when tightening the drive pinion nut otherwise the tapped holes for the bracket will be
damaged.
