Steering Wheel: Technical Service Bulletins
Heated Steering Wheel, Checking

Check heated steering wheel fuse and replace if necessary.

If fuse is OK:

-

Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap.

WARNING!

Prior to removing an airbag unit, ALWAYS review CAUTIONS and WARNINGS in the appropriate Repair Manual!

Remove airbag from steering wheel (see appropriate Repair Manual for model listed).

-

Visually inspect wiring and connectors at control module.

-

Locate ground wire at control module (see wiring diagram) and check for continuity.

If ground wire continuity is NOT OK:

-

Check wiring and make repairs as necessary.

If ground wire continuity is OK:

WARNING!

Ensure that there is no person inside the vehicle when connecting battery ground strap.

Connect battery ground (GND) strap.

-

With ignition key switched ON, locate positive wire at control module (see wiring diagram) and check for battery voltage.

If battery voltage at control module is NOT OK:

-

Check wiring and make repairs as necessary.

If battery voltage at control module is OK:

-

With ignition key and driver's side heated seat switch both in the ON position, locate signal wire (from driver's side heated seat switch) at control
module (see wiring diagram) and check for battery voltage.

If battery voltage at control module is NOT OK:

-

Check wiring and heated seat switch and make repairs as necessary.

If battery voltage at control module is OK:

-

With ignition key and driver's side heated seat switch both in the ON position, check current draw of the positive circuit at connector B of the control
module.

Depending on vehicle interior ambient temperature, the current range will be 2-8 amps at approx. 12 volts.

If vehicle interior ambient temperature is below 70°F (21°C) the amperage reading will vary as the steering wheel heats up and cools down. If there is
NO amperage reading:

-

Replace steering wheel.

If vehicle interior ambient temperature is above 70°F (21°C) the control module will activate the heating element of the steering wheel for approx. 2
seconds (make sure the meter is connected before performing this test).

Check for an amperage reading

If there is no amperage reading:

-

Replace steering wheel.

If there is an amperage reading:
