Shifter A/T: Removal and Replacement
Selector Mechanism Cover, Removing and Installing

Selector mechanism cover, removing and installing, 02E, 6 Speed Direct Shift A/T, AWD 

Removing 

-

Shift selector lever to position "D".

CAUTION!  Follow steps required when disconnecting battery. 

Note:  The battery is located in the rear compartment, in the spare wheel well.

Disconnect ground strap on battery (in rear compartment) with ignition switched off.

Remove selector lever handle.

Remove rear center console.

-

Carefully release frame by bending four hooks outward - arrows - with a screwdriver. Then remove together with retaining ring, printed circuit
board and cover - A -.

Disconnect connector - B - from selector mechanism cover and lift off cover.

Installing 

Perform installation in reverse sequence of removal. Note the following:
-

Install rear center console.

-

Install selector lever handle.

-

Connect ground strap to battery.

-

Follow steps required after connecting battery.
