1 Series E87 118d (M47T2) 5-door
There is no longer an ignition key or ignition starter
switch. Instead, there is an insert compartment for
the remote control and a START-STOP button, as
on the BMW 7-Series (E65).

Comfort Access
The E87 has the option 322 "Comfort Access". Comfort Access means: The vehicle is unlocked and started or
unlocked without having the ID transmitter in your hand.

Central locking system
The central locking system on the E87 works in the familiar manner. However, more control units are involved in
the functions, e.g. the junction box electronics and the footwell module.

Multiple restraint system 5
A new feature on the E87 is the side airbag installed in the seat backrests. This gave us more freedom we
designed the doors. Occupant safety is of a high standard: The airbag moves with the seating position.

Instrument cluster
Amongst other things, the instrument cluster contains the following displays and menus:

Oil level check
•
Date
•
Time
•
Check-Control messages
The Check-Control message for fuel reserve is new on the E87.
•
Instrument illumination dimmer (when lights are ON)
•
Initialise Run Flat Indicator
•
Menu for Condition Based Service (CBS)
On vehicles with mit CCC or M-ASK, most of these displays and menus appear in the CID.
(CCC stands for "Car Communication Computer"; M-ASK stands for "multi-audio system controller"; CID
stands for "Central Information Display".)
Dimming is always set in the instrument cluster.
