Vibrations/misfiring without DDE fault entry

E46/M57, E38/M57, E39 / M57

Complaints:

The engine judders or misfires when accelerating or driving at a constant speed. This fault
can occur intermittently and in different engine speed ranges. 
In order to reproduce the customer's complaint, try moving the rail pressure sensor
connector by hand. This will usually produce a reaction from the engine.

Affected vehicles:

E38 with M57 
E39 with M57 
E46 with M57 

Manufacturing period: 
Start of series production until March 2002

Procedure: 

In case of customer complaint, measure the smooth running as described in Service
Information bulletin 13 04 00 (651)

. If the injectors do not show any "freak values" (>4),

retrofit the adapter wire sets listed under "Parts", as described in the installation
instructions:

If this action is unsuccessful, the injector wiring harness is also a possible fault source
(e.g. due to corroded or expanded pins on the injectors) and should then be replaced.

the system, thus enabling warranty claims to be
processed.
