TRANSMISSION OIL LEAK - THM 200-4R
Early production 1983 Devilles and Broughams equipped with HT4100 engines and THM 200-4R transmissions may experience a transmission oil leak
at the front edge of the transmission oil pan. This condition can be caused by interference between the back edge of the flywheel cover and the front edge
of the transmission oil pan flange. Beginning at vehicle broadcast number 173549, a new design flywheel cover (P/N 1627822) was put into production
to eliminate the interference described above.
Vehicles exhibiting this condition can be corrected by removing approximately 2 - 4 mm (1/16 - 1/8 in.) from the top, rear edge of the two radii and back
edge on the flywheel cover with a file or grinder (Figure 1). Before resealing the transmission oil pan with RTV (do not use a gasket), make certain its
flange is not deformed.
For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation Number T6071 at .7 hour.
