Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation
Engine Coolant Temp. Warning (Medium Chime)
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) receives coolant temperature data from the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. When the coolant temperature
reaches or exceeds 131°C (270°F) the PCM signals the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) through the UART data line that there is an engine coolant over
temperature condition. The IPC then grounds Chime Module terminal C1 through CKT 1845 at terminal C1/D2. The Chime Module sounds the medium
chime until the IPC removes ground from CKT 1845. Ground is removed from CKT 1845 (by the IPC) when the PCM signals the IPC through the
UART data line that engine coolant temperature is OK or the ignition is turned OFF. The DIC also displays the message "STOP ENGINE-ENGINE
OVERHEATED."
