Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Seal Replacement Recommendations

Lip seals seal rotating shafts. Lip seals require special treatment. The hydraulic shaft of the pump assembly uses the lip seal. Inspect and clean sealing
surfaces when replacing a seal due to a leak. Use crocus cloth to clean surfaces if the following is present:

Slight pitting

-

Groves

-

Corrosion

Replace the shaft only if the leakage cannot be stopped by smoothing the surface with crocus cloth first.
