Steering Shaft: Service and Repair
Intermediate Shaft Lower Extension - Installation
INSTALLATION
1. Match intermediate shaft extension (2) to steering gear shaft (3), then slide extension onto shaft.
2. Install pinch bolt (1) securing intermediate shaft extension (2) to steering gear shaft (3). Tighten pinch bolt to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).
3. Lower vehicle.
4. Place shaft seal and cover (2) over mounting studs on floor pan and securely install fasteners. Make sure cover extends down over top of steering
gear housing.
5. Verify the front wheels of vehicle are in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position.
6. Collapse the intermediate shaft (2). Center it over the shaft extension (3), lining up the ends, then slide the intermediate shaft onto the shaft
extension.
7. Install the intermediate shaft coupling bolt (1). Tighten the bolt to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).
8. Reposition the floor carpet in place.
