Vacuum Pump: Service and Repair
Installation
Pump Mounting Flange Gasket
1. Position new gasket on vacuum pump mounting flange. Use a silicone adhesive/sealer to hold gasket in place.
2. Insert pump assembly upper attaching bolt through mounting flange and gasket. If necessary, use sealer or grease to hold bolt in place.
Installing Pump Assembly On Engine
3. Position pump assembly on engine and tighten upper bolt only enough to hold assembly in place at this time.
4. From beneath vehicle, install pump lower attaching bolt. Tighten both upper and lower bolts to 57 ft lb (77 Nm).
5. Position bracket on steering pump inboard stud, install remaining adapter attaching nut and torque to 18 ft lb (24 Nm).
6. Connect oil feed line to vacuum pump connector and securely tighten fitting.
7. Install oil pressure sender and connect sender wiring.
8. Connect steering pump pressure and return lines. Tighten pressure line fitting to 22 ft lb (30 Nm).

Connect hose to vacuum pump.
10. Connect battery cables if previously disconnected.
11. Fill power steering pump reservoir. Start engine and slowly turn steering wheel left and right to circulate fluid and purge air from system.
12. Stop engine and top up power steering fluid level.
13. Start engine and check brake and steering operation. Verify that power brake booster is providing vacuum assist and firm brake pedal is obtained.
Verify that steering action is normal. Perform these checks before moving vehicle.
