be worn. There may be deposits on the airbag unit and other interior surfaces. In large doses, these deposits may cause irritation to the skin and eyes.
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, use extreme care to prevent any foreign material from entering the side curtain airbag, or
becoming entrapped between the side curtain airbag cushion and the headliner. Failure to observe this warning could result in occupant
injuries upon airbag deployment.
NOTE: The following procedure is for replacement of an ineffective or damaged side curtain airbag. If the airbag is ineffective or damaged, but
not deployed, review the recommended procedures for handling non-deployed supplemental restraints. See: Service and Repair. If the side
curtain airbag has been deployed, review the recommended procedures for service after a supplemental restraint deployment before removing
the airbag from the vehicle. See: Repairs and Inspections Required After a Collision/Service and Repair.
1. Position the side curtain airbag (4) into the vehicle as a unit.
2. Engage the mounting tabs just ahead of and just behind the airbag inflator over the appropriate weld studs (1) on the inner roof side rail and
loosely secure with two nuts (3).
3. Engage the metal hook (3) that secures the side curtain airbag (5) rear tether to the inner D-pillar (2) near the belt line.
4. Engage the plastic push-in retainer (4) that secures the rear tether to the inner D-pillar (2). Both the hook and the push-in plastic retainer are
secured in the same slotted hole of the D-pillar, but the hook MUST be installed prior to the retainer.
5. Engage the two mounting tabs on the outboard side of the airbag inflator into the two slots of the inflator mounting bracket on the inner roof side
rail just forward of the C-pillar, then engage the two mounting tabs on the inboard side of the inflator over the two weld studs of the mounting
bracket and loosely secure with two nuts.
6. Reconnect the body wire harness connector (1) to the connector receptacle at the front of the side curtain airbag inflator (2).
