Glovebox Latch Rattle

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the glovebox latch assembly with a revised part.

NOTE:

THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO NOVEMBER 16, 2000 (MDH1116XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some vehicles may have a glovebox latch that exhibits a rattling condition or a loose lock cylinder. The cause may be fatigue of the cylinder retaining
tab or crush ribs during cylinder installation. The revised part includes changes to the retaining tab/crush rib area (Fig. 1) and incorporates a plastic slider
to reduce vibration (Fig. 2).

DIAGNOSIS:

Make sure the condition originates from the glovebox latch and is not caused by items stored in the glovebox. Open the glovebox and remove the latch
assembly from the door.

Inspect the slider for material type (Fig. 2). If the material is metal, proceed with the Repair Procedure. If the material is plastic, further diagnosis will be
required.

PARTS REQUIRED:

NOTE:

THE PART NUMBER FOR THE REVISED ASSEMBLY DID NOT CHANGE FROM THE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION PART. THE SLIDER
(Fig. 2) MUST BE INSPECTED FOR MATERIAL TYPE. THE NEWEST ASSEMBLY WILL HAVE A PLASTIC SLIDER. OBSOLETE PARTS
WILL HAVE A METAL SLIDER.
