Ignition Switch: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove attaching screws from lower steering column cover. For models equipped with cruise control, carefully perform the following step.

On vehicles equipped with cruise control, pull down wire located on the forward edge of the lower cover. This will pull the spring loaded
commutator brush back into its housing. If the commutator brush is not pulled into its housing before the lower cover is removed, the
brush will be broken off.
4.
Remove upper and lower steering column covers.
5.
Remove attaching screws and lower instrument panel cover.
6.
Remove ignition switch cover.
7.
Disconnect two wire electrical connectors (one black and one gray).
8.
Remove ignition switch attaching screw.
9.
Turn ignition switch to the unmarked (arrow) position.
10.
Push on locking tabs and remove switch. Remove switch by feeding the wires through the lock cylinder bore.
11.
To disconnect the tumbler from the electrical switch, remove two attaching screws securing assembly together and separate assembly.
12.
Reverse procedure to install. Vehicles equipped with cruise control, note the following:
a. Pull down on wire located at the forward edge of the lower cover.
b. This will put the spring loaded commutator brush back into its housing.
c. If the commutator brush is not pulled into its housing, the commutator brush will be broken off.
