Tie Rod End: Service and Repair

1. Remove and discard cotter pin and nut from tie rod end, then use tie rod end remover 3290-D, or equivalent, to separate tie rod end from steering

knuckle.

2. While holding tie rod end with a suitable wrench, loosen jam nut slightly. Allow jam nut to remain as close to its original position as possible for

tie rod end installation depth reference.

3. Using suitable pliers, remove tie rod end from tie rod.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:

a. Thread new tie rod end onto tie rod only until it reaches jam nut, then secure with jam nut until wheel alignment can be inspected and set.
b. Install a new tie rod end stud nut and cotter pin.
d. Inspect and adjust wheel alignment.
