Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
Ignition Switch
-
The ignition switch lock cylinder cycles the ignition switch through a pin which is part of the ignition switch. The ignition switch has four
positions:
-
LOCK
-
ACC
-
RUN
-
START
Key Reminder
The ignition key reminder switch will signal the Central Timer Module to sound a chime when the ignition key is left in the ignition switch
lock cylinder and either front door is opened.
Column Lock
The ignition switch lock cylinder also controls the mechanism which provides a positive lock for the steering system. The locking mechanism
is located in the steering column housing. When the ignition key is removed, the steering column lock tab will engage the steering column to
lock the steering wheel.
Shift Interlock Mechanism
A shift interlock mechanism is used on vehicle with an automatic transaxle to prevent shifting the transaxle out of the PARK position unless
the brake pedal is pressed.
