Supply manifold (vehicles with returnless fuel system)

The fuel injection equipment of the 2.5L engine consists of a fabricated supply manifold, into which is fitted a fuel pressure regulator and six injectors.

The injectors are of the top feed type, mounted directly to the supply manifold. O-ring seals are fitted to the top and bottom of the injectors. The electronic injectors are activated sequentially by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) via individual electrical connectors.

The fuel pressure regulator for the 2.5L engine is a vacuum operated, diaphragm type. The fuel pressure is regulated by the vacuum, generated in the engine plenum. This acts on the diaphragm, controling a valve that regulates the fuel flow. This allows acceptable fuel pressure to be maintained over all operating demands of the engine, excess fuel being returned to the fuel tank. The regulator is attached directly to the supply manifold, where it is sealed with O-rings on the flow side and a compression seal on the return side.

The supply manifold is mounted to the engine by four bolts. Rubber hoses supply and return fuel to and from the rail, but feature quick - release couplings to facilitate easy removal of the complete assembly (vehicles without returnless fuel system). A rubber hose supplies fuel to the fuel rail, but features a quick - release coupling to faciliate easy removal of the complete assembly (vehicles with returnless fuel system).
