Diagnosis and Testing

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

Visual Inspection Chart

  • Visibly damaged or worn parts.
  • Loose or missing bolts or nuts.
  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  1. If the concern is not visually evident, verify the symptom and refer to the Symptom Chart.

A1: CHECK GEARSHIFT LEVER

Disconnect the selector cable and the shift cable from the shifter assembly.

Is the gearshift lever difficult to operate?
Yes
INSTALL a new shifter assembly.
REFER to Removal and Installation in this section.
No
A2: CHECK THE SELECTOR CABLE AND THE SHIFT CABLE.

Attach the selector cable and the shift cable to the shifter assembly.

Disconnect the selector cable and the shift cable from the transaxle.

Is the gearshift lever difficult to operate?
Yes
INSTALL a new selector cable and a new shift cable.
REFER to Removal and Installation in this section.
No
There is a problem with the transmission. REFER to Section  308-03 Manual Transmission/Transaxle.
