Removal and Installation
Remove

CAUTION:

Wait at least two minutes after disconnecting the battery before proceeding or there may be the possibility of accidentally deploying the air bag(s) and pyrotechnic seat belts.

CAUTION:

Disconnect the battery negative lead.

1. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds (six screws).
2. Remove the air bag module (refer to Operation Number 40 700 0).

3. Centralise the steering wheel and lock in position.

4. Remove the central electrical box cover.

5. Detach the lower crash pad panel (six screws).

6. Remove the lower crash pad panel.
1. Disconnect three multiplugs.
2. Disconnect the footwell lamp.

7. Remove the PATS transceiver assembly (one screw).

8. Disconnect the air bag/clockspring wiring loom.
1. Disconnect the air bag/clockspring multiplug.
2. Detach the air bag/clockspring wiring loom.

9. Remove the steering wheel.
• Turn the ignition switch to position I to remove the steering wheel and return to position 0 when removed.
10. Remove the clockspring assembly (refer to Operation Number 33 392 0).
Install
11. Refit the clockspring assembly (refer to Operation Number 33 392 0).

WARNING:

When refitting the steering wheel ensure that the clockspring tabs engage correctly over the steering lock plunger assembly.

CAUTION:

Ensure that the steering is in the straight ahead position.

12. Refit the components in reverse order.
