Transmission
The MTX 75 is a front wheel drive transmission with 5 manual gears and can transfer torque up to 220 Nm.
MTX 75 means:
MT Manual Transmission
X TransaXle (Front wheel drive)
75 the distance between the input and output shafts in mm.
The two part transmission housing is closed at the ends to avoid the need for external seals.
The input and output shafts run in tapered roller bearings.
To reduce running noise and allow transfer of more torque, all gear wheels including reverse have helically cut teeth and run on needle bearings. All gears are synchronised. From '95 MY, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears are double synchronised.
The advantages of this are quiet running, low weight, compactness and easy gear changing.
Clutch
The clutch consists of a single disc dry clutch with diaphragm spring operated pressure plate, and is bolted to the flywheel.
The short release lift of the clutch allows low clutch pedal pressure, and short pedal travel.
The release bearing is carried on a bush, which also holds the transmission input shaft seal.
The diaphragm spring is fitted between two fulcrum rings which are rivetted to the clutch housing.
Torsion springs in the clutch disc prevent transmission vibration and clutch judder.
