Water Pump Assembly (Zetec) - Remove And Install (24 404 0)

Escort/Orion 1991 (08/1990-09/2001)

Removal and Installation

Remove

CAUTION:

Disconnect the battery negative lead.

1. Remove the water pump drive belt upper cover (two bolts).

2. Raise the vehicle.

3. Remove the splash shield (three bolts).

4. Loosen the four water pump pulley bolts.

5. Remove the alternator drive belt.

1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise direction.

2. Remove the drive belt and release the drive belt tensioner.

6. Drain the cooling system (refer to Operation Number 24 122 0).

7. Lower the vehicle.

8. Detach the power steering reservoir and relocate clear of the working area.

9. Detach the expansion tank and relocate clear of the working area (one nut and one bolt).

10. Disconnect the power steering pipe and relocate clear of the working area.

Cap ends and openings to prevent ingress of dirt.

11. Remove the water pump pulley.

12. Remove the camshaft drive belt (refer to Operation Number 21 304 0).

13. Disconnect the top coolant hose.

14. Remove the water pump assembly (four bolts).

Install

15. Refit the components in reverse order.

16. Refill the cooling system and check for leaks (refer to Operation Number 24 122 0).
