10. CAUTION: Use care not to damage the pinion, the bearings, the seal and the cup.
Carefully insert the pinion into the axle housing, and seat the inner bearing into the bearing cup,
11. CAUTION: Never hammer on the companion flange or install the flange with power tools.
NOTE: If reusing the original pinion and companion flange, be sure to align the index marks made during disassembly.
Lightly coat the companion flange splines and seal mating area with Premium Rear Axle Lubricant XY-80W90-QL or equivalent meeting Ford
specification WSP-M2C197-A, and install the flange with a new washer and nut.
12. CAUTION: Never back off the pinion nut to reduce preload. If preload reduction is necessary, install a new collapsible spacer and
pinion nut.
Tighten the pinion nut.

Install the Flange Holder, to hold the companion flange while tightening the pinion nut.

Rotate the pinion occasionally to make sure the bearings are seating properly.

Take frequent pinion bearing torque preload readings.
