8. CAUTION: Do not spread the housing more than specified.
Spread the axle housing, using the Differential Carrier Spreader and the Dial Indicator/Magnetic Base.
9. CAUTION: Use care to avoid damaging the ring gear and pinion.
Remove the differential with the bearing cups, using two pry bars.

Remove the Differential Carrier Spreader after removing the differential.
10. Measure the pinion bearing torque preload, using a Nm (inch-pound) torque wrench. Record the reading.

Rotate the pinion, using a Nm (inch-pound) torque wrench. Record the torque necessary to maintain rotation of the pinion through several
revolutions.
11. Install the Flange Holder, and remove and discard the pinion nut and washer.
