Disconnect the white altitude connector at the distributor.

Connect a timing light, Rotunda No. 059-00005 or equivalent, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

With the timing light, check the timing marks the crankshaft pulley and timing case. Correct spark timing at idle is 0~ +/- 1 BTDC. All 1988 and
1989 carbureted build before 11/15/88. 2~ +/- 1 BTDC for all 1989 carbureted built after 11/15/88. 0~ +/- 1 BTDC for all 1989 EFI.

If timing is not within limits, loosen the distributor mounting bolts and rotate the distributor to advance or retard the timing; clockwise to advance,
counterclockwise to retard.
9.
Tighten the mounting bolts and disconnect the timing light.
10.
Connect the vacuum advance hoses and the white altitude connector.
11.
Recheck the idle speed and adjust if necessary, as specified in Section 24-16.
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Distributor Cap and Rotor Removal

If the cap is to be replaced, mark the distributor cap towers with the cylinder numbers to avoid changing the firing order when reconnecting.
Disconnect by twisting and pulling on the connector boot only. Pulling directly on the wire can cause internal breakage. Disconnect the coil wire
from the central tower, observing the same precautions.
