Distributor Cap: Service and Repair
Removal
If cap is to be replaced, mark distributor cap towers with cylinder numbers.
1.
Disconnect plug wires and coil wire by twisting and pulling on boots only.
2.
Remove two screws attaching cap to housing and remove cap.
3.
Pull rotor off the shaft.
4.
Wash cap and rotor with soap and water, then dry with compressed air.
5.
Inspect cap and rotor for cracks, coil contact damage, carbon tracking or burns.
Installation
1.
Position new distributor cap seal ring, if necessary.
2.
Align rotor with flat surface of shaft.
3.
Install distributor cap. If replacement is used, align it with old cap and mark towers to match the old marks.
4.
Connect coil wire to center tower.
5.
Install plug wires using numbers from old cap as guide.
