Anti-Theft - Passive - Anti-Theft - Passive Fiesta 1996 (08/1995-02/2002)
Description and Operation

The anti-theft alarm system is similar in most respects to the system introduced in 01/1994 but with the additional option of an infrared remote control.

The combined anti-theft alarm and double locking module is mounted behind the cowl side trim panel in the right -hand front footwell. The infrared receiver for the remote control, when fitted, is contained within the interior lamp assembly.

This remote control can be used to control the central locking and the double locking systems.

The alarm is set automatically when the vehicle is central locked or double locked when using the key in either of the front doors or by using the remote control.

If the button on the remote control is pressed once only, the vehicle will be centrally locked and the perimeter alarm will be set.

Pressing the button twice within three seconds will double lock the vehicle and set the anti -theft alarm.

When the double locking (and the alarm) is set, the doors cannot be opened from the inside, neither can the tailgate be opened from the inside using the remote release button in the centre console near the gear change lever.

An inhibit switch is fitted to the tailgate lock barrel which prevents the alarm sounding when the tailgate is opened with the key.

When the system is armed an LED indicator adjacent to the clock will flash and the alarm horn will sound immediately any attempt is made to open any of the doors, the hood or the tailgate, or to disconnect the radio, or try to start the engine.

The alarm and double locking module has a serial link line to the data link connector which enables the system to be diagnosed for faults using the FDS 2000. A self -test procedure is detailed in section 419 01A.

The alarm is triggered by ajar switches which are mounted within the door locks and the tailgate lock which respond immediately the locking mechanism is released. The hood switch is mounted on the hood locking panel. A separate alarm horn is mounted on the right -hand side inside the rear body panels.

The remote control, when fitted, is effective up to an approximate range of five metres providing the transmitter assembly is pointing towards the vehicle. Details on programming the remote control(s) is contained in the Section 419 01A.

Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS)

The Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) is fully passive in operation and requires no special procedures by the driver to arm or disarm the system. It is invisible to normal scrutiny and is operated by a miniature transponder within the key body. This communicates with the module through a transceiver mounted around the ignition switch lock barrel.

The PATS functionality for vehicles fitted with a manual transmission is incorporated within the powertrain control module. All other vehicles have a separate control module located behind the cowl side trim panel.

PATS may be identified by the ignition key which has an imprint in the casing (usually red) indicating the presence of the transponder that controls the system.

The transponder code reading is carried out when the key, having been inserted into the ignition lock barrel, is turned from position `0' to position `III' to crank the engine. If the control module receives the correct code signal, the engine will start. Should the code received not be recognised, the engine will not crank as the PATS is still armed and the engine is still immobilised.

Keys

Vehicles built upto 01/1998 have three keys allocated to every new vehicle and all three must be coded to the PATS in order for it to function correctly. The first key to be inserted into the ignition lock barrel is identified by the system as the `master' key (red in colour).

NOTE:
NOTE:If the PATS module is renewed at any time, the master key must be the first key used. This will ensure the owner/operator is able to programme additional `slave' keys (black in colour) if required.

The master key provided with every new vehicle should be kept in a safe place and not be used as a normal key. It is the only key which will allow the owner/operator to programme additional slave keys.

Up to a maximum of sixteen keys may be programmed to the system. For information on the programming of keys, refer to the sequence in this section.

Vehicles built 01/1998 onward have only two keys allocated to every new vehicle. Both keys are required to programme additional keys by the owner/operator. Up to a maximum of eight keys may be programmed to the system

Key Programming

Vehicle built Upto 01/1998

Insert the RED master key into the ignition and turn to position II. When the LED illuminates, turn the key to position 0 and remove the key.

Check the LED goes OFF and illuminates again for two seconds. The system is now in the programming mode and remains in this mode for ten seconds.

Insert the slave key to be programmed and turn to Position II. The LED will flash once to indicate that the key has been programmed. Turn the key to position 0 and remove the key. To programme additional keys it is necessary to re -insert the RED master key and restart this procedure.

Reprogramming of the RED master key is carried out using FDS 2000.

Vehicle built 01/1998 onward

NOTE:
NOTE:Additional keys can only be programmed with the two `known' PATS keys (A and B) or with FDS 2000.
NOTE:
NOTE:This procedure can be repeated after 20 seconds. If programming is unsuccessful, the anti -theft indicator LED will flash when the ignition is switched on with the key that was being programmed.

Insert key A into the ignition switch and turn to position II.

Turn the key to position 0 and remove key A from the ignition switch.

Insert key B into the ignition switch and turn to position II.

Turn the key to position 0 and remove key B from the ignition switch.

Insert the new key into the ignition switch and turn to position II.

Remove the key from the ignition switch. The key is now programmed.
