Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Remove the brake master cylinder.
    For additional information, refer to: Brake Master Cylinder - LHD (206-06 Hydraulic Brake Actuation, Removal and Installation).

  1. Disconnect the brake vacuum pipe from the brake booster.
    1. Unclip the brake vacuum pipe.
    1. Disconnect the brake vacuum pipe.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes
  1. Remove the windshield wiper motor.
    For additional information, refer to: Windshield Wiper Motor (501-16 Wipers and Washers, Removal and Installation).

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the brake tubes to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make a note of the position of the brake tubes to aid installation.
    Remove the brake master cylinder to hydraulic control unit (HCU) tubes.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the brake tube to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Detach the left-hand front brake tube from the fender.
    1. Disconnect the brake tube union.
    1. Detach the brake tube.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the instrument panel lower panel.
    1. Remove the lower retaining screws.
    1. Remove the upper retaining screws from the stowage compartment.
    1. Release the retaining clip.

  1. Remove the brake booster retaining nuts.

  1. Detach the brake booster actuating rod from the brake pedal.
    1. Depress the clip.
    1. Remove the brake booster actuating rod pin.
  1. Remove the brake booster.
    • Discard the gasket.

Installation

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Do not install an Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) brake booster to a vehicle that is not equipped with the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    WARNING:
    WARNING:Do not use a damaged brake pedal. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the brake booster gasket is correctly positioned on the brake booster before installation.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not drop or knock the brake pedal. Failure to follow this instruction will cause damage to the brake pedal decoupler mechanism (if equipped).
    NOTE:
    NOTE:On vehicles equipped with EBA the brake booster is identified by a white sticker showing a large letter "A".
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new brake booster gasket.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
