Rear Shock Absorber - 3-Door-4-Door > < Wheel Spindle

Removal and Installation

Removal

3-door, 4-door and 5-door
  1. Detach the load space trim panel and position to one side.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use an Allen key to prevent the piston rod from rotating.
    Remove the shock absorber upper mounting retaining nut.
All vehicles
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.
3-door, 4-door and 5-door

  1. Remove the shock absorber.
Wagon

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When removing the left-hand shock absorber, it is necessary to detach the exhaust system from the rear hanger insulator.
    Detach the exhaust system from the rear hanger insulator.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When removing the left-hand shock absorber, it is necessary to remove the exhaust heat shield.
    Remove the exhaust heat shield.

  1. Remove the shock absorber upper retaining bolt.

  1. Remove the shock absorber.

Installation

Wagon

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Final tightening of the suspension components should be carried out when the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.
    Install the shock absorber lower retaining bolt.
Vehicles with load-levelling shock absorbers

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the tab on the shock absorber top mount is pointing outwards.
    Install the shock absorber.
Wagon

  1. Install the shock absorber upper retaining bolt.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:After installing the left-hand shock absorber, it is necessary to install the exhaust heat shield.
    Install the exhaust heat shield.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:After installing the left-hand shock absorber, it is necessary to attach the exhaust system to the rear hanger insulator.
    Attach the exhaust system to the rear hanger insulator.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Final tightening of the suspension components should be carried out when the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.
    Tighten the shock absorber lower retaining bolt.
3-door, 4-door and 5-door

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Final tightening of the suspension components should be carried out when the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.
    Install the shock absorber lower retaining bolt.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Guide the shock absorber strut into the locating hole.
    Lower the vehicle.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use an Allen key to prevent the piston rod from rotating.

    Install the shock absorber upper mounting retaining nut.
  1. Attach the load space trim panel.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Final tightening of the suspension components should be carried out when the vehicle weight is on the road wheels.
    Tighten the shock absorber lower retaining bolt.
