Front End Body Panels - Fender Focus 1999 (08/1998-12/2004)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. General Information
    • Procedures for lh and rh fenders are similar.
    • NOTE:
      NOTE:If only one fender needs to be replaced it is not required to completely remove the front bumper and the headlamp. In this case it is sufficient to detach the headlamp and the bumper from the fender. However, the following procedure details the complete removal.
  1. Remove the front bumper. For additional information, refer to Section  501-19 Bumpers.

  1. Remove the fender splash shield.
    • Remove the screws.
  1. Remove the headlamp assembly. For additional information, refer to Section  417-01 Exterior Lighting.

  1. Detach the fender upper flange.

  1. Remove the weatherseal.

  1. Remove the washer reservoir filler pipe.

  1. Remove the bolt from the A - pillar.

  1. Remove the fender.
  1. Disconnect the turn signal repeater electrical connector.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The vehicle must be standing on level ground. The door must be fully closed with uniform clearances with the A - pillar, the rear side door or rear quarter panel of the body rocker panel.
    Install the fender.
    1. Install the fender and install all the screws finger tight.
    1. Check and adjust the clearance and the edge alignment with the door (4.0 mm ± 1.0 mm).
    1. Tighten the rear upper screw.
  1. Align the fender.
    1. Nip down the front screw on the edge of the fender apron panel.
    1. Close the hood carefully.
    1. Adjust the clearance between the fender and the hood, open the hood and tighten the front screw on the edge of the fender apron panel.
      • 1. Clearance between the fender and the hood: 4.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.

        2. Clearance between the fender and the door: 4.0 mm ± 1.0 mm.

    1. Adjust the edge alignment with the door.
    1. Tighten the screw in the A - pillar from the wheelhouse.
    1. Check the width of the clearance with the door and tighten the lower screw in the body rocker panel.

  1. Check all the clearances and tighten the screws.

  1. Tighten the bolt to the A - pillar.

  1. Tighten the side screws to the A - pillar.

  1. Tighten the lower screw on the edge of the fender apron panel.
  1. Install the weatherseal.
  1. Install the headlamp assembly. For additional information, refer to Section  417-01 Exterior Lighting.

  1. Adjust the hood bump stop rubber.

  1. Install the fender splash shield.
  1. Install the front bumper. For additional information, refer to Section  501-19 Bumpers.
  1. Connect the turn signal side repeater electrical connector.
