Removal and Installation

General Equipment
One M6 x 100 mm bolt

Removal

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:Always wear safety glasses when working on an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling an air bag module. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Detach the instrument panel lower panel.
    1. Remove the screws.
    1. Detach the clip.

  1. Remove the instrument panel lower panel.
    • Disconnect the data link connector (DLC) .
    • Disconnect the footwell light electrical connector (if equipped) .

  1. Remove the steering column upper shroud.
    • Using a thin bladed screwdriver, release the two clips (one each side).

  1. Detach the audio control switch from the steering column lower shroud (if equipped).
    • Using a thin bladed screwdriver, release the locking tang.

  1. Remove the audio control switch (if equipped).
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  1. Remove the steering column lower shroud.
    1. Release the steering column locking lever.
    1. Remove the screws.

  1. Detach and lower the steering column.
    • Remove and discard the nuts.
    • Remove the bolt.
  1. Remove the instrument cluster. For additional information, refer to Section  413-01 Instrument Cluster.
  1. Remove the audio unit. For additional information, refer to Section  415-01 Audio Unit.

  1. Remove the glove compartment.
  1. Remove the passenger air bag module. For additional information, refer to Section  501-20A Safety Belt System / 501-20B Supplemental Restraint System.

  1. Detach the climate control and audio unit trim panel from the instrument panel.
    1. Remove the screws.
    1. Detach the clips.

  1. Remove the climate control and audio unit trim panel.
    • Disconnect the electrical connectors.
    • Disconnect the climate control cables.
  1. Remove the ashtray.

  1. Remove the heater core housing assembly panel.
    • Remove the screws (left-hand side shown).

  1. Remove the insert from the front of the floor console.

  1. Remove the floor console front retaining screws.

  1. Remove the floor console rear retaining screw.
    1. Remove the screw cover.
    1. Remove the screw.
  1. Move the floor console rearwards.

  1. Remove the instrument panel upper retaining clips.
    1. Install a M6 x 100 mm bolt.
    1. Using a suitable tool, remove the retaining clips.

  1. Remove the instrument panel side trim panels.

  1. Remove the instrument panel side bolts (left-hand side shown).

  1. Detach the instrument panel.
    • Remove the bolts.
    • Detach the defroster tubes.
    • Detach the cable clips.

  1. Remove the instrument panel.

Installation

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:When installing the steering column, make sure new nuts are installed. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
