Separator, Ball Joint

1. 

   CAUTION:Use a socket to loosen the wheel hub retaining bolt to prevent damage.
   Loosen the wheel hub retaining bolt.

2. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.

3. Disconnect the brake pad wear indicator electrical connector (if equipped).

4. Detach the brake hose from the suspension strut.

5. Remove the front wheel speed sensor from the wheel knuckle.

6. 

   CAUTION:Leave the tie-rod end retaining nut in place to protect the ball joint stud.
   Loosen the tie-rod end retaining nut.

7. 

   CAUTION:Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.
   Using the special tool, detach the tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle.
   1. Release the tie-rod end.
   2. Remove and discard the tie-rod end retaining nut.

8. 

   CAUTION:Suspend the brake caliper and anchor plate to prevent load being placed on the brake hose.
   Detach the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly from the wheel knuckle.

9. Remove the wheel hub retaining bolt.
   • Discard the wheel hub retaining bolt.

10. Remove the brake disc.
    1. Remove the brake disc retaining bolt.
    2. Remove the brake disc.

11. Detach the lower arm ball joint from the wheel knuckle.

12. Detach the halfshaft from the wheel hub.

13. Remove the wheel knuckle.

1. Install the wheel knuckle.

2. Attach the halfshaft to the wheel hub.

3. Attach the lower arm ball joint to the wheel knuckle.

4. Install the brake disc.
   1. Install the brake disc.
   2. Install the brake disc retaining bolt.

5. 

   WARNING:Install a new wheel hub retaining bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
   

   NOTE:Do not fully tighten the wheel hub retaining bolt at this stage.
   Install a new wheel hub retaining bolt.

6. 

   WARNING:Install a new tie-rod end retaining nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
   Attach the tie-rod end to the wheel knuckle.

7. 

   NOTE:The tightening torque for the anchor plate to the wheel knuckle retaining bolts is dependent on the wheel size.
   Attach the brake caliper and anchor plate to the wheel knuckle.
   For additional information, refer to Specification in this section.
   

8. Install the front wheel speed sensor to the wheel knuckle.

9. Attach the brake hose to the suspension strut.

10. Connect the brake pad wear indicator electrical connector (if equipped).

11. Install the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Section  204-04 Wheels and Tires.

12. Tighten the wheel hub retaining bolt.
